Booklet 1

The new booklet is at Picachu photocopy center now.
As you'll see we'll continue talking about weather and then we'll move to "Old age" .
The grammatical point is going to be "future". We'll start with simple future and then we'll move to future continuous and future perfect. Not that difficult, but you need to be careful as they are quite confusing.

Here you have some questions for you to answer on the "comments" section of this blog.
Choose at least 2. You can answer all of them if you want.
Even though these questions may be answered based in your opinion, you need to justify what you say. If you write that you don't like cold weather, for example, say why.

(Please make sure that your name appears somewhere on your post so I can identify you)

1. What do you like and dislike about the climate of your country?
2. What do you like and dislike about the climate of Iquique?
3. How does the climate of a country/city affect the people who live there? Think about these aspects of people's lives:
- their daily routines
- their eating and drinking habits
- their clothes
- their homes and other buildings
- their character and attitude to life
4. Has the weather ever affected your life in a dramatic way?
5. Do you know any old sayings about the weather, like "Red sky at night, sheperds' delight? (you can post some in Spanish if you don't know the English equivalent)

2. What do you like and dislike about the climate of Iquique?

If we consider the temperatures of iquique, i think they are excellent
not too cold, not too hot, but the lack of rain and as result of this, the scarce of green areas shows a sometimes sad landscape in the city and the sourrounding areas.

5. Do you know any old sayings about the weather, like "Red sky at night, sheperds' delight? (you can post some in Spanish if you don't know the English equivalent)

there are some refrains that i´ve found, it would be interesting if we could search the meanings in english :D

good bye! take care

franco.

2. What do you like and dislike about the climate of Iquique?
I totally dislike the brightness of the sun even if the temperatures aren’t that high and I guess that the only things I like about the climate of this city is the nice breeze and the absence of rain during winter.

3. How does the climate of a country/city affect the people who live there? Think about these aspects of people's lives:
Obviously climate affects tremendously on people. In cold weather people spend more money on clothes, electricity or petrol for their heaters; food tends to be fried and more prepared because the body needs to have more energy to work; constructions are thicker and have a special fall to don’t retain water (gable roofs) ,not as in hot climates where most of the houses have a mediterranean style of construction, this means flat roofs. Our attitude is also different, because in warm climates we can be more relax, without being worry about the effects of weather in our daily routine (for example: “if tomorrow rains I’ll have to wear boots, but if it doesn’t rain and I’m wearing boots I won’t be comfortable”), and we don’t have to spend so much money so our lives are much more simple.

That´s it!
I hope that all of u can enjoy this week ;D !!

1-What do you like and dislike about the climate of your country?

I think that the climate of Chile is exceptional because their form allows a varied climate; arid-semiarid and rainy zones with unique biodiversity. Another thing that I like of the climate of Chile is in comparison with other countries we are not affected by tornados and hurricanes.

2-What do you like and dislike about the climate of Iquique?

I like that morning isn´t cold but during the day the sun is too strong and is extremely necessay to use some protection because the solar radiation is very dangerous.

***Has the weather ever affected your life in a dramatic way?

I remember something that happened to me when i was 5 years old and I lived in Antofagasta : a terrible flood..
I was so young but I remember it …gusty winds, coludy skies… That day I couldn’t sleep at all because of the unusually heavy rain … my sister got moved to a new house a few days before of the torrencial downpour ( thanks to god because that house was completely destroyed) …She had left my niece in our house(not in her new house) and she was worried about her girl .When she know what was happened ,she went to my house crying and looking for her girl ( she had seen in the news that in our area to much people had died )and at least she could see her baby.. my sister was pregnant and she said to me that there wasnt any bus to get to our house … thanks to god my house wasnt destroyed…a few blocks away from our house people was killed… that was terrible .. but anyway I remember that I liked to much the wind and the rain.
The city was hit by several debris flows and flash floods,. In addition, Antofagasta’s roads, railroads, and water-supply system were damaged, affecting a total of 21,000 people. Total losses were estimated at $27 million.

** What do you like and dislike about the climate of your country?

I like that chile has ranges from hot and arid in the north to very cold in the far south because that is very interesting because we don’t get boring looking where to go on vacation ….. .chile has everything we need …. Vegetation , beautiful beaches…etc…. The only thing that is no good and I dislike are earthquakes, that sometimes affect us …..

1. What do you like and dislike about the climate of your country?

i think that chilean climate is the most complete. we had in the north the driest desert of the world with exotic animals and we don't have rains because the region location. in the central part we can enjoy of our nature wich is very difficult to see in the first regions, we find valley, more animals,it is more easy for us to find vegetables , fruits , meat and other things that in the north is more difficult because the arid zone.in the south we have a very strong climate, precipitations increase more than the center of the country, and we can see volcanoes, etc.
is very cold at winter and people usually have to wear more clothes to protect themselves.
so i think that we are very lucky.
i don't dislike our climate.

2. What do you like and dislike about the climate of Iquique?

iquique's climate is very nice, we have the brightest sun most part of the year, but i think and people said that this is changing. that iquique's climate is not the same compare with 5 or more years ago.

I like very much chilean climate because is varied from north to south,we should be proud to get almost all kinds of climate in our country, like desertic, mediterranean and mild. Also these conditions are the "details" that put Chile as one of the most beautiful countries to travel if you are a tourist.

In some way,I don´t like the climate here.In the last years has been too changeable.Probably 8 or 10 years ago,Iqq has bright sun a good weather probably 3/4 of the year, but now due to climatic changes we feel cold temperatures mainly on winter that is not usual for us.But the conditions that Iquique get are very good and can enjoy it all the year.

1. What do you like and dislike about the climate of your country?
I really like the weather in Chile, because there is a big range of conditions and weather changes from north to south, this is a good factor to the environment of countryside, the animal species and the style of human life.Starting from the north, we have a very hot and dry weather if we move gradually to the south we’ll found mild and sometimes cloudy weather (specially in the coast), in the east is more snowy because we have Andes Range (chain mountains), to the capital (Santiago) or center of Chile we found notorious seasons, in the south is more rainy, and the extreme-land south is snowy sometimes during the year.

3. How does the climate of a country/city affect the people who live there?

In my city, Calama, the weather is extremely hot and dry, the people who lives there has dark skin, and dehydration is more frequently during the day, if you wash your clothes you must be careful with the sun, because it take the colors out of your clothes, the houses are common, but the roof is not able to raining weather, the character is common too.

2. What do you like and dislike about the climate of Iquique?

1- I like the changeable climate of our country, and because of this climate, we have a varied environment that made it very rich in tourism,it made it so diferent from north to south.

2-I like it here because you don´t go out and return to your house all wet,and you can use light clothe, but at the same time I miss the rain, is beautiful, and to see snow is amazing, well I prefer cold, but here is nice.

1. What do you like and dislike about the climate of your country?
2. What do you like and dislike about the climate of Iquique?

I like a lot the climate of Chile because it has a wide range of changing, among northern and southern of the country. I like our diversity, if I want sun I’ll go to Arica or if I want some rain I’ll go to Pta. Arenas.

I like the climate of iquique but I’ve to confess that sometimes I miss the rain; or chilly days, watching tv in bed and eating some “sopaipillas”.

that's all
